One interviewee per session
It is a good practice to have another team member capturing the interview (on paper - not audio).
Plan the intent of the interview upfront
Initial interviews will most likely follow a storyline by the interviewee as they recollect events. Don’t interrupt (except for clarity).
As the Cause & Effect Diagram unfolds, there will be a need for technical interviews. These are explanatory as opposed to a storyline format.
Do not jump straight into the interview. Try to first get to know a little more about the person.
Avoid pre-empting answers. The intent is to learn their perspective.
Advise the interviewee that there may be a need for a further interview (as the Cause & Effect Diagram develops)
